Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative

The Diocese of Fort Worth, under the leadership of Bishop Michael Olson, has launched a vital initiative through the Office of Safe Environment and Office of Catholic Schools to combat human trafficking in our community. This program aims to educate our community—especially parents, caregivers, and young people—about the serious issue of human trafficking and to empower them with information on how to report suspected threats or incidents of human trafficking.

Objectives

  • Raise Awareness: Increase understanding of the facts about human trafficking at national, state, and local levels.
  • Empower Parents and Caregivers: Provide essential resources to help protect children and vulnerable individuals.
  • Educate Young People: Equip students with knowledge to recognize the signs and dangers of trafficking and how to report threats or concerns to trusted individuals.

Through the Human Trafficking Awareness Initiative, we aim to foster a safer environment for all children and vulnerable individuals in our community, creating informed advocates who can recognize and respond to potential threats of human trafficking.

What is Human Trafficking?

Human trafficking is a severe violation of human dignity. It strips individuals of their freedom and treats them as commodities for exploitation. Everyone is created in the image of God and deserves to live with respect, safety, and dignity. Human trafficking robs people of these basic rights, making it an issue that affects us all.

  • 2,373 human trafficking reports were received by the National Human Trafficking Hotline from Texas in 2023, of that 583 reports were from victims or survivors.
