The fostering of vocations cannot be considered a marginal activity but must be incorporated fully into the life and activity of the community.

Why Parish Vocations Ministries?

A priest gives a young girl a high five after Mass.Vocations begin in the family. If families are the seedbeds of vocations, the question is; where do the families themselves receive their formation? Families are formed in parishes. The regular, ongoing, weekly encounter with the Church and the sacraments happens in ordinary parishes. Inspiring children and teens has to happen where they are. Together with the family, the parish community is where faith is nurtured and grown.

Studies show that the majority of young men consider a religious vocation between 6 and 18 years of age. The implication is that teens in parishes, many of whom are open to the idea of a vocation need better education, inspiration, and support so that their vocations can mature. This takes planting seeds through education and invitation. It requires opportunities for the Holy Spirit to reach the hearts of young discerners. It also takes the support of adults dedicated to prayer and encouragement.

A nun speaks to a group of girls. Many young boys and girls become disinterested in a priestly or religious vocation before ever being catechized on how to even discern a vocation - any vocation. Since priests are not typically a part of their daily lives and are often only seen behind an altar once a week, boys never get a chance to consider a vocation to the priesthood before it is snuffed out by the glamour's of the world. Yet community, love, and fulfillment of a vocation are what they desire deep down, even if they are unaware.
