Parish Vocations Ministries in the Diocese of Fort Worth
Proposing Vocations in the Local Church means having the courage, through an attentive and suitable concern for vocations, to point out this challenging way of following Christ which, because it is so rich in meaning, can engage the whole of one’s life.
Pope Benedict XVI
Vocations Ministries work to create a culture of vocations in each parish, school, campus ministry, and with Catholic families. The establishment of vocation ministries and activities in all parishes encourages parishes to involve each family and ministry individually and collaboratively in vocation awareness activities and discernment founded on prayer.
Parish Vocations Ministries are driven by the laity, working in concert with pastors, the Diocese of Fort Worth Vocations Office, and members of local Serra Clubs. They can be powerful engines of vocation-related outreach at the parish level. As a single, cohesive unit, a parish vocation ministry’s general aim is to work and pray toward cultivating vocations to the priesthood, diaconate, and religious life. The Vocations Office and local members of Serra International support parish vocations ministries in many ways, including training workshops, mentors for parish ministries, annual planning and goal-setting and resources for a year round parish vocations plan. Some of these activities may include:
- Parish Vocations Ministry Workshop
- Weekly Content for Bulletins, Website and Social Media
- Weekly General Intercessions for Vocations Tied to the Liturgical Year
- Holy Hours for Vocations
- Vocations Resources for Catholic school teachers, catechists and youth ministers
- Altar Server Recognition Events
- Clergy and Religious Appreciation Events
- Traveling Vocations Cross or Chalice Program
- Prayers for Vocations
- Promotional materials for National Vocations Awareness Week, Priesthood Sunday, World Day of Prayer for Vocations, etc.
