Scout Leader Catechist Training
The teaching of Jesus Christ and His Church can take place, equally, within and outside the structure of the classroom. Scout Leaders, in a special way, can be instrumental in sharing the Catholic faith through the scouting environment by encouraging the faith walk of youth and by their witness to the love of God. For this reason, the St. Junipero Serra Institute is offering a certification to assist scout leaders in sharing the Gospel. The training will be focused on evangelization and Catechesis and topics will include Sacred Scripture, liturgy, sacraments, and moral life among others. The Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition, as well as the Catholic Bible RSV are the basic texts for the training.
We will offer an intensive two-day training held on two consecutive Saturdays from 9 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. Each day will cover four lessons. The training will be offered three times a year in diverse locations throughout the diocese. The cost is $50 per person.
Please note, the two days of training are to be taken in order. If leaders cannot attend the two consecutive days, they may attend the second day of training at a later date, in either the same location or in a different location.
Please note: We respectfully request every troop leader who has direct interaction or is involved in formation of a child must participate and complete Catechist formation-training by December of this year (2020). If you have any questions about registration or sessions, please contact either Paola Quintero-Araújo or Jason Spoolstra.
