Thanksgiving

The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth wishes you a blessed and happy Thanksgiving. As we gather in celebration around the tables of our homes, let us take the time to ponder our blessings and give thanks to the Lord with humble hearts.

Ways To Share

  • Share your blessings by donating to your parish food bank, Catholic Charities Fort Worth, or Society of St. Vincent de Paul to help those in need.
  • Invite someone who might be alone for Thanksgiving to your family’s celebration.
  • Bake something to give to a neighbor you don't talk to often.
  • Let someone who may be hurting know that you care and are praying for them.

Reflection

On Thanksgiving Day, after we have finished eating, we like to go around the table and have everyone share something for which they are thankful. This may seem simple, but I’ve heard some incredibly lovely, endearing, and emotional responses of gratitude from guests and family over the years. You never really know what is happening in someone else’s life until you take the time to ask, share, and listen.

Prayers

O LORD our GOD,
who supplies us with countless blessings, lift up our hearts in gratitude and thanksgiving.

Help us to remember the gifts we seldom notice,
the abundance we take for granted,
the rich possibilities you provide.

For our daily bread,
for water that is pure,
for houses to live in and friends to enjoy,
we give you humble thanks.

For beauty and fruitfulness,
for healing and hope,
for the comfort of your presence,
we lift our voices in joyful praise now and always.

Amen.

Thanksgiving Prayer - Catholic Health Association of the US

Shout joyfully to the LORD, all you lands;

Serve the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful song.

Know that the LORD is God,
he made us, we belong to him,
we are his people, the flock he shepherds.

Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him, bless his name;

Good indeed is the LORD,
His mercy endures forever,
his faithfulness lasts through every generation.

Psalms 100:1-5

Gritad gozosamente al SEÑOR, todas las tierras;

servid al SEÑOR con alegría;

da gracias a él, bendice su nombre;

Salmos 100:1-5
