40 Days for Life

A focused Pro-Life effort that consists of:

  • 40 days of prayer and fasting
  • 40 days of peaceful vigil
  • 40 days of community outreach

We are praying that, with God's help, this groundbreaking effort will mark the beginning of the end of abortion in our city, and throughout America.

Vigil for All Nascent Human Life

In the fall of 2010 the Holy Father announced that he would celebrate a Vigil for All Nascent Human Life (or life at its beginnings or origins) at St. Peter's Basilica to coincide with first vespers of the First Sunday of Advent. The Holy Father then requested that all diocesan Bishops preside in analogous celebrations. The purpose, according to the Holy See, is to "thank the Lord for his total self-giving to the world and for his Incarnation which gave every human life its real worth and dignity," and to "invoke the Lord's protection over every human being called into existence." Please help us make this part of our diocesan Advent tradition by making plans to join us at St. Patrick Cathedral for this beautiful beginning to the Advent season. Note: This is not a Mass.

Annual Respect Life Mass

This diocesan liturgy is held each January near the anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion. It is held at St. Patrick Cathedral in downtown Fort Worth. A candlelight procession will mark the millions of deaths that have occurred as a result of abortion. Your presence and participation in prayer and worship will be an important sign of support to the efforts of those who serve diligently to protect the most vulnerable; the unborn, the disabled, the chronically ill and the elderly. All are invited to attend.

National Day of Penance

On January 22, the exact date of the Supreme Court decision that legalized abortion, we designate a National Day of Penance. Please join with others around the nation and the world in offering up some small sacrifice for the conversion of hearts and the healing of those who have been wounded by abortion.

Life Chains

Life Chain is a peaceful and prayerful public witness of pro-life Americans standing for one hour praying for our nation and for an end to abortion. It is a visual statement of solidarity by the Christian community that abortion kills children and that the Church supports the sanctity of human life from the moment of conception.

Respect Life Sunday

The Respect Life Program begins anew each year on Respect Life Sunday, the first Sunday in October. The program is highlighted in liturgies and marked by special events focusing on many critical concerns of the day - abortion, euthanasia, marriage and family life, capital punishment, poverty, immigration issues, chastity, natural family planning, post-abortion healing and reconciliation, the culture of life, biotechnology, children, teens, persons with disabilities, the elderly, those who are dying, and more.
