Stewardship at Your Parish
Teach your children to be good stewards this summer!
As formation classes take a break over the summer, many of our parishes will be offering VBS, but are there other ways you can provide stewardship education to children? Below are some suggestions for maximizing the time of year when families generally have more time on their hands:
- Provide a child-friendly tour of the church. Include in the tour emphasis on how many people (whether staff or volunteers) it takes to ensure Mass runs smoothly.
- Plan a family-friendly Rosary night—pray the Rosary, have ice cream after.
- Consider a summer bulletin series where a child-friendly stewardship insert is included each week. Diocese of Cleveland published a document with a specific focus on children’s stewardship; you can access here. Diocese of Charleston has also published A Guide for Stewardship for Children and Youth which can be accessed here.
- Organize a service project for youth to participate in—there are so many ways youth can help the parish community and/or your greater area:
- Pack lunches for a local homeless shelter.
- Organize a visit to an assisted living facility. Ask the activities’ director if the children can play a game with the residents, like UNO or checkers.
- Utilize the youth to wipe down the pews.
- Enlist families to help with greeting, ushering, and/or handing out coffee and donuts.
Take advantage of relaxed summer schedules and involve families who are looking for activities for the kids!
As always, please reach out with any questions/comments: at 817-886-6607 (office) 626-643-9803 (cell).

Light of Christ Awards
Nominations are due!!
Please be sure to submit your Light of Christ nominations by April 23! Recognizing an individual parishioner (or married couple) with the Light of Christ award gives a tangible and accessible model of living out the four pillars of Stewardship (prayer, formation, hospitality and service) to your parishioners. Your congregations may think that Stewardship is only about giving money (and this is a very common misconception!), but we all know that the usher who consistently show up for the early Masses, the catechist who has taught years of elementary formation, or the married couple who has partnered with countless engaged couples are the folks who are helping to build a sense of community and spreading the love of Christ in your parishes.
Award ceremonies are scheduled for (all events will start at 6:30pm and end at 8:00pm):
- Thursday, June 18; Immaculate Conception Church, Denton
- Thursday, June 25; Our Lady Queen of Peace, Wichita Falls
- Thursday, July 2; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Fort Worth
- Thursday, July 9; Our Lady of Lourdes, Mineral Wells
- Thursday, July 16; Our Lady of Mercy, Hillsboro
Paper applications have been mailed out to all parishes, however you may access the online application here: Light of Christ Nomination Form – Fill out form.
Please visit www.advancementfoundation.org/stewardship-awards for more information, or contact or call 817-886-6607 (office) or 626-643-9803 (cell).
