The following are Educational Personnel Requirements set by the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department.


Teachers in Self-Contained K-8

  • A Bachelor’s degree.
  • 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate.
  • Teachers of Religion must be Catholic.

Teachers in Grades 9-12

  • Bachelor’s degree in content area taught.
  • 12 credit hours in education courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate
  • Teachers of Theology/Religion must be Catholic.

For all Teacher Levels

  • A TCCED Deficiency Removal Plan is required if minimum required education hours (12) are not met.
  • The Diocesan School Advisory Board recommends an entry level salary of $30,268.00 for the 2015-2016 school year. However, each school will develop a salary scale using this recommendation as a goal and may pay less based on the budgetary restrictions of their particular school. Full-time staff of the Diocese of Fort Worth are also offered and may choose to participate in a comprehensive benefit plan.

Do you have to be Catholic to teach in Catholic schools?

No. Catholic schools are an equal opportunity employer. However, teachers of religion/theology classes must be Catholic.


How do I apply?

Contact the Office of Catholic Schools or any of the local Catholic schools for information and an application.


What employee benefits do the schools provide for full-time teachers?

Currently, all benefits are provided by the employer.

What standardized tests are used in Catholic schools?

The Diocese of Fort Worth administers the Iowa Tests to students in grades 2 – 8. In addition, grades 4 and 7 administer the Otis Lennon School Ability Test. Secondary students, grades 10 and 11, take the PSAT. The Assessment of Catholic Religious Education (ACRE) is given to students in grades 5, 8 and 10/11. High school students take the SAT and/or the ACT for college admission.


What is the purpose of standardized testing in Catholic schools?

Standardized testing helps schools assess the outcomes of educational programs, help teachers identify academic talent and helps teachers identify difficulties (as a diagnostic tool).
