Office of the Bishop

Pastoral Letter Regarding Proposed Mandates and Religious Exemptions for Covid-19 Vaccinations and a Proper Formation of Conscience

September 28, 2021
"During the past several months I have received questions from members of the Catholic faithful in the Diocese of Fort Worth both directly and indirectly as communicated to me through our priests, deacons, and school administrators regarding other issues of morality around the vaccine for COVID-19 and the possibility of offering religious exemptions to mandates issued by employers and government offices at the federal, state, and local levels. I have very seriously taken these matters to prayer and to consultation with other bishops, theologians, administrators, medical experts, and my priests and legal counsel." World Mission Sunday

October 24, 2021

World Mission Sunday, our annual worldwide Eucharistic celebration for the Missions and missionaries of the world, will be celebrated on October 24 this year. Now is the time for your parish to start planning for the special collection and for related catechetical opportunities. This collection on the next-to-last Sunday in October is a unique, global effort for the entire Church to provide for the building up of over one thousand local churches in Asia and Africa, the Pacific Islands, and parts of Latin America and Europe. Through the work of these churches, and their witness to Christ, the poor receive practical help and experience God's love and mercy, His hope and peace.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter

October 2021

Worldwide Marriage Encounter has expanded to offer the experience during the week for those who cannot commit to a weekend. This is great for priests who cannot get away as easily. It’s called a 3RE and spans several weeks with sessions twice a week. Information can be found on the website. WWME is still offering “virtual” experiences so couples can benefit from a Worldwide Marriage Encounter weekend without the risks of in person gatherings. One of the benefits of this approach is that those attending do not have to live close to a central location.

Attached is a WORD document with bulletin announcements in English as well as in Spanish. Additionally, there are .jpeg images, one for each Sunday in the month that can be placed into the weekly parish bulletins. Information from Worldwide Marriage Encounter coordinators is available for parishes to inform couples of upcoming Encounter events. Feel free to include this valuable information in your bulletins.

Catholic Charities of Fort Worth

Catholic Charities Partners with the Diocese to Bring Vaccines to Parish Communities

As we continue to work towards the health and safety of our nation, not only is it morally permissible for people of faith to receive the vaccine, but it is also at the urging of Bishop Olson. He has asked Catholic Charities to reach out to you to see if you will be willing to open up your parish to be a COVID-19 vaccination site. With language barriers, confusion in the media, and general lack of knowledge or accessibility, we believe the parishes have a unique and trusted opportunity to offer this service to our communities.

Catholic Charities has established relationships with health officials willing to provide this service to parishes free of charge for persons age 12 and older. In order to minimize barriers for vulnerable populations to access vaccines, providers are not requiring registration (walk-ins allowed), and are minimizing identification requirements. In addition, vaccine providers will offer end-to-end management of the event logistics, making it as easy as possible.

Currently, our parish vaccination efforts have led to over 500 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine being administered in our parish communities. You can also read more about this partnership in the attached article featured in the North Texas Catholic.

Parishes wishing to host a vaccination event may contact , Director of Parish Social Ministry or 817-289-3889 for more information or to initiate planning.
