In light of the new state law that enables individuals to openly carry guns, Bishop Michael F. Olson has established a “Firearms and Weapons Policy”. The policy is effective immediately. The policy bans both firearms and weapons which are carried openly and firearms and weapons which are concealed. However, the ban becomes effective only after proper notice is provided and state-mandated signs are posted.
The policy bans firearms and weapons in all diocesan locations, including churches, schools and all other facilities that are located on parish or diocesan sites.
Diocesan legal counsel indicates that since state law is not clear what constitutes “effective notice,” it will be necessary for each parish to use several types of notices in English and Spanish in addition to the posting of signs at all entrance to churches and other facilities.
The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth Marriage Tribunal has relocated from the Catholic Center to new offices located on Nolan Catholic High School Campus. The Tribunal now is located on the east side of the Nolan Campus, in the old Renewal Center building.
The telephone number of the Tribunal office and the numbers of individual staff as email addresses remain the same. Mail should continue to be sent to the Catholic Center address, 800 West Loop 820 South, Fort Worth, 76108. An internal process is in place to transfer mail back-and-forth to the Tribunal office.
As the Tribunal office is in the process of setting up and getting organized in their new location, it is recommended that individuals call in advance to coordinate a date and time to visit the office.
