Catholic Social Advocacy

Advocacy Day 4-9-13
Tuesday, April 09, 2013 - Advocates from the Diocese of Fort Worth participate in the rally on the Capitol steps in Austin, Texas.

Promoting Life, Justice and Peace

Catholic Social Advocacy is about promoting life, justice and peace during the course of the Legislative session. The bishop of the Diocese of Fort Worth and fellow Catholic bishops in Texas have developed legislative priorities and will advocate the concerns of the Catholic Church in Texas to state leaders and members of the Legislature during the course of the legislative session. Every faithful member of the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth can help the bishop and the other Texas Catholic bishops.

Texas Bishops Advocacy

The Texas Catholic Conference (TCC) encourages and fosters cooperation and communication among the dioceses and the ministries of the Catholic Church of Texas, as well as serving as the public policy arm of the Conference's board of directors, the bishops of Texas, before the Texas Legislature, state agencies and the Texas delegation in Congress. The Fort Worth Catholic Diocese is a member of the Texas Catholic Conference board.

The public policy issues addressed by the TCC include the institutional concerns of the Catholic Church as well as issues related to Catholic moral and social teachings.

The Texas Catholic Conference coordinates the activities of the 15 Texas Catholic dioceses and a variety of Catholic organizations in Texas before the Texas Legislature. Through its website, the TCC reviews all bills filed by legislators, provides an analysis of each bill, and indicates whether the bill is being supported or opposed, based on the legislative agenda set by the bishops in their capacity as TCC board members. Please visit to see an analysis of bills currently before the Texas Legislature which the bishop deem the attention of Texas Catholics.

The Texas Catholic Conference also coordinates testimony and other dialogue between Texas Catholic bishops and Texas Catholics and state legislators.

The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth joins other Texas Catholic Diocese in supporting ‘The Texas Catholic Conference Legislative Agenda "Promoting Life, Dignity and the Common Good.'"

The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth is joining other dioceses of Texas in advocacy activities with members of the Legislature.
