Bishop Michael F. Olson issued a pastoral letter on the recent executive order regarding a moratorium on refugee admittance which was read at all Masses in the Diocese.
A op-ed by Bishop Michael F. Olson regarding the moratorium on refugee admittance appeared in the Fort Worth Star Telegram.
Fort Worth Catholic Charities, the social agency for the Diocese of Fort Worth, expresses concern that a new presidential executive order regrading refugees seeking resettlement into the United States will have harmful effects on individuals and families who are vulnerable, experiencing persecution or other horrors and who are seeking a better life in the United States.
The Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth respects the responsibility of the federal government to secure our borders and ensure the safety of our citizens for the common good.
We urge federal officials to consider the real needs of immigrant families as they implement border security measures. We also remind federal officials, as well as all citizens of the United States, that we are a welcoming nation; our legitimate responsibility to provide safe borders does not justify hostility and animus against families of immigrants. As we read in Leviticus 19:33-34 "When an alien resides with you in your land, you shall not oppress the alien. The alien who resides with you shall be to you as the citizen among you; you shall love the alien as yourself, for you were aliens in the land of Egypt: I am the Lord your God." Just and legal immigration is essential to the health and flourishing of our nation. As Catholics we will not close the door to our neighbor in need out of our fear and selfishness.

The aim of the St. Francis De Sales Basic Catechist Formation Program is to form catechists. A catechist is a person who desires to teach the Catholic faith and become an effective witness of the Gospel. The primary emphasis of this program is to form faithful catechists. Throughout this journey, catechists will become familiar with basic catechetical concepts; understand the role of the liturgy, the RCIA process, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, proper methodology, lesson planning, and so forth in the areas of catechesis and catechetical instruction.
The St. John Paul II Institute, the diocesan lay ministry formation school, is accepting registrations for both its basic two-year program and its third-year “deepening program.”
